he passed his car seat tolerance test!
he looked so itty bitty!
it was stressful for us to watch the machines to see if he was okay :(
Earlier this week I had heard that Kaweah Delta had a program called couplet care. This gives new parents (of a child that has been in the NICU) a chance to spend the night in a hospital room with their baby to 'practice' taking care of their little one before going home. I was definitely interested in this program. After having Aidan hooked up to a bunch of monitors it was kind of scary to suddenly take them away. Would he be okay? How would we know if he was doing okay? The stress of being a parent was already beginning. Couplet care would be a great transition before going home.
That morning we found out that the NCU department was full so the hospital found us a room in the labor and delivery ward and were going to let us do couplet care until he was discharged! It was great that we were going to stay with him but, like the last three days, things happened so quickly. They told us we would be moving into our couplet room as soon as Aidan took his car seat stress test. We had two hours and then they could take the three of us to our new room. Yikes, I had just rolled out of bed and hadn't even eaten breakfast! I thought we were going right back home! Kev decided to run home and grab what we would need while I fed Aidan.
They did the car seat stress test (he had to sit in the car seat for one hour to make sure his oxygen, respiratory and heart rates all stayed in the healthy zone) and he passed!
Off we went to our new room. No monitors to be hooked up to! What a difference three days makes. :) Thank you everyone for all of your prayers, they have helped our little guy!
