Changes continue

Tuesday-
I forgot to mention the other new updates with our little munchkin.  He lost an ounce after being transferred to the open bed, not unusual but he needs to gain that ounce back soon.  He is allowed to breastfeed three times a day but no more than that because it burns more calories and we don't want him to lose any more weight.  He will also be getting a fortifier in the breast milk to give him some extra calories and more weight gain.  His red blood count is a little low, typical of preemies because of their bodies still growing bone marrow so they are giving him an iron supplement.  Too low a count and they will talk blood transfusion-we don't want that! We've now completed our first night of couplet care with little Aidan.  The night went well, though the sleep was very limited.  Our room was much darker and quieter than the NICU that he was used to so I don't think he slept as soundly.  He made little noises and whimpers throughout the night and I of course, had to calm him by placing my hand on him or shushing him. He would immediately go back to sleep, but this happened throughout the night so sleep...not the greatest.  Don't forget that we also had our feedings throughout the night.  He seemed to eat more often at night!  What's up with that?  And he wanted to sit and look at us when he was done feeding.  What happened to falling asleep when he was done?  :)  Silly boy.
At eight o'clock this morning we got set up to do our morning breast feed when two nurses walked in and told us labor and delivery needed the room we were in and we were going to have to move out.  What?!?  They did tell us that we weren't being kicked out, they had another room for us in the pediatrics department.  So, we packed up the room and made our way up to our new home.  Cool thing is, this new room is bigger and has a couch for visitors.  Yay!
We aren't sure how long we will be staying, he lost a few grams yesterday so we're still working on his weight gain.  Can't go home if he loses weight.  Hopefully today's mellowness and the full day of feeding with the fortifier will help him to gain at tonight's weigh in.
