Thursday morning Aidan had two more breathing episodes while spending the day at home with Kevin. The first episode was the same as before but this time his whole body was shaking, a weird new addition. Later in the morning when Kevin was putting him into his carseat to run an errand to Babies R Us, he stopped breathing and turned blue. Aidan did begin breathing on his own again but Kevin called 911. The ambulance and fire truck showed up at the house and decided to take him to UC Davis to get him evaluated. We are again at the children's hospital at UCD and they are running lots of tests in hopes of figuring out what is causing these episodes. So far they have done an RSV test, a chest X ray, a CT scan, an EEG (brain), blood tests, urine tests, and a spinal tap. So far we know that he doesn't have meningitis, his lungs are clear, his scan and EEG came back normal and the preliminary tests show he doesn't have RSV. They are doing some more blood tests and urine tests to see if anything else shows up. They are being very thorough. The doctor gave us an article about a study regarding children who have experienced apparent life threatening events (ALTE). There are cases of other children under the age of one who have various types of ALTE's. There are many things that can cause these but about 50% of the cases don't have an apparent cause. It seems that this may be something that can occur until he's one.???? Not sure. There are some increased risks, like an increased risk of SIDS, but it looks like it is riskier the younger the child.
We pray that they can get some more information for us and that he stays strong. We are lucky that the neurologist (brain doctor) didn't find anything. Like he said, you don't want him to be the one finding the trigger. So far, so good in that area.
The grandparents both came up to Sacramento today and will stay the weekend with us. Not sure when he gets to go home, will keep everybody posted!
Thank you for caring about our little guy and for all of your prayers!
