another day at UCD

We spent the day at the hospital still trying to recover from this nasty virus that Aidan has.  We found out today that there are four viruses that give little ones NASTY congestion and some apnea problems.  Well, Aidan has now had two of them; the virus he had in January (that put him in the hospital with our first breathing episodes) and the one he has currently.  I don't want to be the mom to brag that he had all of the big four; he can stop at two viruses!  No more hospital stays!!!!
The doctor is thinking these viruses are probably the reason for the breathing problems.  Little ones like him get sooo congested and tired that they just kind of hold their breath or stop breathing.  This cold season has been awful and many of the kids in pediatrics have one of these viruses, many of them RSV.
We are still doing the upper GI test tomorrow, just to rule out any problems in that area, but the doctor is hopeful that test will come back clean.  As long as it does, he can come home tomorrow. :)
We pray he has a good night's sleep tonight with no problems.  He kind of weirded out tonight after his bath.  I had the warm water running in hopes of creating some steam for him to breathe and sat in the bathroom drying off his hair next to the shower head.  I guess the bathroom wasn't that warm and we sat there for too long.  When we walked out to his crib I grabbed a diaper to put on him and I noticed he was kind of shivering.  I tried to quickly get the diaper on and get him dressed but he started to tense up and whine and act funny.  I called the nurse in and we covered him up with a blanket, suctioned out his nose and he came back around.  It wasn't a true episode but almost looked like the one we had last Saturday.  We attached the pulse oxygen tab to his foot and his oxygen saturation was good, a bit of relief there.  Since then he's been tired, had a slight fever for a bit, and a little cranky.  The doctor tried to check his ears for an ear infection (he's been shaking his head for a day and a half now) but there was too much wax down in his ear and he didn't have an instrument to remove it.  We still don't know if he has one or not.
The poor baby just doesn't feel good and needs some sleep.  We ended up giving him some tylenol to help relax him.  Hopefully tonight goes well.  Pray that he recovers quickly.  I know many of you have said prayers for our little man.  Thank you for that.  All you parents out there know how hard it is to watch your babies suffer while they're sick.  I'm looking forward to happy and healthy days.  Can't wait for the cold season to be over!!!
