Surprise! At 10:15 Wednesday evening there was some leaking going on and it seemed like my water might be ruptured. Since I was still visiting in Visalia, my mom took me to the emergency room to get checked. Yup, the bag of waters partially broke (but no contractions) and I was admitted to the Labor and Delivery ward. The doctor/midwife that was on call that evening decided that we could sit and wait to see if labor would naturally begin. The doctor we worked with was fabulous and let us wait to allow more time for Aidan to develop and it also kept us off of the drugs that would try to kick start a labor that wasn't showing much progress. Friday night a new doctor came in and she changed the plan (our doctor wasn't happy about this when he came back into on Monday) so she put us on pitocin (even though I was beginning to dilate and thin on my own) and threw us into full blown labor. We were able to labor for about 5 hours with contractions every minute. Kevin was the most wonderful laboring partner and I am very proud of how we were handling the experience. We were strong! Problem was...I continued to dilate at a very slow rate and the doctor didn't like that. I then developed a slight fever which made laboring a little more risky and we opted for a c-section for the sake of the baby. I run very high fevers; not good for laboring.
So, Aidan was born at 12:58 am Saturday morning at 35 weeks and 6 days. He was 4 pounds 1 ounce and 16 and 3/4 inches. He is in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and will be there for a little while. He is breathing well on his own, we are just waiting for his temp to stay steady on his own and his digestive system needs to fine tune. They are introducing breast milk 2ml at a time and hopefully they will be able to increase the dosage since he's beginning to process the food better.
He's absolutely adorable and is very sweet. He does let you know when he doesn't like something and has good muscle control. He'll just move your hands out of the way. :)
Please pray for the little guy and that he has a speedy recovery. Our next step is for him to transfer to the regular nursery and then home. We can't wait until all of those wires and tubes are gone!
